Work and positive progress continues! Phase I of our school’s RE:VISION project began this past summer. It was completed under budget and finished on schedule to welcome everyone for the first day of school. The feedback and response from parents, students, and faculty has been positive. It is great when a plan comes together and expectations are exceeded. The new space is being well utilized and enjoyed by everyone. Phase 1 complete, what next?
The RE:VISION committee is still raising funds to accomplish the vision of moving St. Andrew’s forward. The strategic plan for our campus and students has not changed, but after careful consideration the original construction design has been modified and the timeline adjusted. We look forward to the construction of the competition gym that will also serve as our storm shelter. Following much discussion with the architects and builders, the decision has been made to renovate the existing gym structure to create the four new needed classrooms and the elementary gym (see plans).
We feel like this adapted plan will utilize the space more efficiently while still accomplishing the end goal in a more cost-effective and timely manner. The entire project will now be done in two phases instead of the originally planned three phases.
Remember, this RE:VISION project is not just about more space. It is about additional instructional areas and the effects they will have for generations to come. The continued focus of this project has been to create more space in order to increase the possibilities for all students, Primer through 8th Grade, to grow and flourish academically, socially, and athletically. More classrooms will directly translate to an expanded curriculum, providing opportunities for academic growth. The addition of a performing arts stage will improve our already incredible fine arts program with the addition of more theatre and performing arts capabilities. A new competition gym will strengthen our athletic program, furthering the lessons one can learn only from being part of something bigger than oneself. The now utilized existing gym will also be available when the weather does not cooperate with recess schedules. And don’t forget the included storm shelter!
We are currently working to raise 40% of the remaining construction budget. Achieving this goal will allow us to successfully make presentations to local foundations and begin Phase II. It is important to not confuse the efforts of the RE:VISION campaign with the yearly operating budget of St. Andrew’s. The committee is raising money for capital improvements, not operations. The school is run on a daily basis from tuition revenue, the Annual Fund and other fundraising efforts.
The Board of Trustees has voted and agreed to proceed with the amended plans. The committee strongly believes we will successfully accomplish the original vision of this campaign while saving both time and money. Thank you to those who have already contributed to the RE:VISION campaign and thank you in advance to future contributors for your support. We look forward to sharing more details of this project as they unfold in the next couple of months. If you have any questions, please contact Ron Ferguson at the school.
