Faculty Visit Long-View Micro School (Austin)
As part of their year-long investigation into highly effective instructional practices and curriculum, members of the Math Department traveled to Austin, Tx to visit the Long-View MicroSchool.
From Long-View's website...
"At Long-View, students fully participate in the mathematical experience. We'll craft definitions, design algorithms, invent games, code solutions, ask questions, make conjectures, require proof, and present our reasoning. We'll constantly strive for sense-making and deep understanding, reaching toward an ever-more sophisticated understanding of mathematics, while honing our skills as mathematicians."
The math department engaged in professional dialogue with Long-View founders, Kevin Moore, Lisa Zapalac, and Cathy Lewis. All of us walked away with new ideas to implement immediately and an excitement about where we can go as a community of math learners.
Stay tuned for more information as we continue our investigation into re-tuning our math program for the 2018-2019 school year in the interest of empowering your child to strive to think like a mathematician!
