The visual arts curriculum is project based, meaning students learn about the elements and principles of art, as well as art history, within the context of specific projects. Each year, all students K-8 study five artists in depth. The study of art history and culture is incorporated into art projects as students learn about works of art, art movements, and cultural expressions that relate to these five specific artists. Proper use of media, tools, vocabulary, and process is demonstrated in the context of specific projects. When possible, projects in art integrate classroom units of study, school-wide activities, field trips, holidays, or celebrations.
