FINE ARTS
Fine Arts Overview
St. Andrew’s values self-expression and exploration, identity development, development of technique, and engagement in the community. Our Fine Arts program offers a comprehensive education that nurtures creativity, discipline, and technical excellence across various artistic disciplines. St. Andrew’s state-of-the-art curriculum is designed to provide rigorous training and immersive experiences in Visual Arts, Theatre, Vocal Arts, and Orchestra, ensuring that students develop both their artistic skills and their professional discipline.
Visual Arts
In our award-winning Visual Arts program, students engage in a broad spectrum of artistic practices, including painting and drawing, sculpture, Art History, and installation art. Our studio offers an inspiring space for creativity for all ages, while our curriculum encourages critical thinking, experimentation, and expressionism with opportunities to compete on the state and national level for Middle School students. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade create visual art for our annual Fine Arts Night, which is an immersive celebration of their work throughout the year.
Performing Arts
Theatrical, musical, and orchestral education are integral parts of education at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. We strive to provide a foundation for all students that is engaging and fosters an ongoing appreciation throughout the elementary school years and beyond. It offers a unique way for children to express themselves, to explore the human condition, and to develop empathy. Routine exposure to the performing arts inspires a higher level of thinking and reasoning that improves children’s capacity to learn and comprehend. Performances are produced in the Connie Wootton Fine Arts and Athletic Building. Students participate in our Grandparents Day, Lessons and Carols, and Fine Arts Night programs.
THEATRE
The SAES Bronco Theatre Program is just one of the exemplary extracurricular programs offered at St. Andrew’s. Within the program, students present one or two full-length theatrical productions each year. Opportunities are available for students in grades 3-8 to be a part of these magical and incredibly fun shows. Students are taught all aspects of the theatrical world in a safe and creative environment. The ultimate goal of the program, aside from providing quality productions for our community to enjoy, is to teach students invaluable skills that they can apply to all aspects of their day-to-day lives. Self-discipline, respect, responsibility, public speaking, healthy communication, and creative problem solving are just a few examples of what your student will learn with us. Our directors are passionate and experienced professionals who are dedicated to nurturing the talent and individual success of each and every student in the program. Be creative, be kind, be innovative, and welcome to the Bronco Theatre!
MUSIC
In the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Music Education Program, we nurture a lifelong love for music through comprehensive and personalized instruction. Our program offers K-8th instruction appropriate for all skill levels, from beginners discovering their first notes to advanced students refining their craft. With a focus on both performance and theory, our curriculum is designed to build a strong musical foundation while encouraging creativity and expression. We use innovative teaching methods to ensure an engaging and supportive learning environment. Middle School students are invited to join the Bronco Chorale, which performs publicly throughout the year at celebrations like Grandparents and Special Friends Day and Lessons and Carols. Our program is committed to helping each student achieve their musical goals and enjoy the transformative power of music. Join us and embark on a journey of musical discovery and growth!
ORCHESTRA
What an amazing journey Orchestra is at St. Andrew’s! For students in grades 3-5, Orchestra is part of the expected curriculum. Students may choose the Violin, Viola, Cello, or String Bass and will be taught in a positive, encouraging environment. In 3rd grade, students focus on beginning posture, position, note reading, and playing short lines. Fourth grade Orchestra builds on the basics and moves on to more difficult rhythms, scales, bowing techniques, and an introduction to ensemble playing. Students are introduced to more advanced techniques in all facets, including the addition of vibrato and ensemble playing, in 5th grade. All of this prepares students for membership in the Middle School Orchestra where the primary focus is advanced ensemble playing. Opportunities exist in each step of the journey for public performances and solo/ensemble competitions. The lessons we learn in Orchestra are invaluable life lessons as well: discipline, determination, persistence, self-correction, commitment, accountability, working as a team–just to name a few! We hope that students will develop a love and appreciation for music, no matter where their future takes them.
